I thought it was rubbish at first until i re watched it on the countless times that it has been replayed on television. I am surprised that they manages to go without their usual racism. Still it is a good film, even now that Bernie Mac is dead it is much better

Tryed to be like a comedy version of Shawshank rediption but was kind of lame. Eddie Murphy was good Martin Lawarence was just like he is in every other movie so he was pretty average.

It's humor is erratic and maybe a little too long but it's still a damn sight better than any of that Nutty Doolittle stuff.

This is a great match of cast members and for what the story is it comes out nice.
Plenty of giggles along the way. It's an easy night in.

This movie is great and funny as hell too, but I hated that they got out so late so thats why I gave it 4 1/2 stars instead of 5.

This is a pretty underrated movie, and sadly forgotten. Even I forgot about it until I saw it on cable this morning, and was immediately reminded of how great it was. Eddie Murphy's performance is in a league of its own...whether he aims for drama or comedy in this "dramedy," he really delivers it in pitch-perfect fashion.

A brilliant film, not sure if it's a comedy or drama but still it's a good buy for me. It a bit confusing at the start but still Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence as a partnership, fantastic!

For a comedy, I didn't laugh once. Also there was a lot of profanity-not at all suitable for non adults. Basically a story-doesn't really fit into any movie genre.

This is one of the first movies that I considered BORING as hell... and I was 10! If a 10-year-old says a movie sucks, there's something wrong with it. I just thought (even back then) that the movie was awfully casted: Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence in a drama?? And a long one I must say! The plot was fine but the awful performances (by the entire cast but mostly by them) really did the trick. A snoozefest of epic proportions... and it didn't deserved the Oscar nomination (Best make-up)...

Yes, it was sold as a prison comedy, which in the end, because it wasnt, it really just depressed me.

Lots of great laughs in this film. Eddie and Martin make a good team kinda like Walter Matheau and Jack Lemmon in "Grumpy Old Men."

Don't get me wrong here. Though this story is funny as all get out, you cannot help but shake your head at it. 2 men in order to right a wrong go to Mississippi in the early 1930s to get some moonshine for a hood in the hood, but somehow they get caught up in some mess they have no business in and end up in prison for life after a kangaroo court sent them there. Although with its humane moments and all, I just cannot get with it. It just won't appeal to my sense of fairplay. Funny as all get out though, but sad. One of the most sadder scenes is Martin Lawrence catching a reflection of himself in a mirror after 40 years; it makes you want to cry.

I could have lived with out the foul language; nonetheless both Murphy and Lawrence grew up a lot in this film. The movie was well written and historically correct. It showed what these men are truly capable of when not rolling around in fat women costumes. The settings and costumes were perfect as well. Obba babatude, Nick Cassavets, Anthony Anderson, Bernie Mac, Miguel A Nunez Jr,
Breent Jennings, Bokeem Woodbine, Guy Torry, Barry Shabka Henley, Ned Beatty, Michael Taliferro deserve mad props too the acting was tight.
